Parkland Hospital, Dallas
Jamail & Smith has served Parkland Hospital as their on-call contractor since 2009 and has completed more than 200 projects varying in size and complexity. The day-to-day operations of medical facilities and offices present unique challenges for construction. With respect for the Hospital’s primary mission of patient care, we focus on schedule and budget, and other factors such as effective collaboration, minimizing disruption, access to services and facilities and safety are just as paramount.
In partnership with the owner’s staff, our team has remained enthusiastically committed to meeting these needs and doing whatever it takes to make Parkland Hospital look great. On each and every project, we have delivered quality construction results that ensure the safety of their healthcare workers and patients.
Parkland 7 West
The Parkland Hospital 7 West Apheresis Treatment and Med Secure Unit project gave Jamail & Smith the opportunity to renovate a wing of the hospital that had been unused for several years. Converting the space’s function and designation from the existing standard (single and multi-patient rooms) to a med secure environment required special attention to anti-ligature hardware, finishes and applications. The kitchen space was remodeled into a patient treatment room and experimental laboratories were converted to conference rooms, a staff break area, office space, and a new restroom.
Working in an environment where the construction site is part of an operational, round-the-clock medical facility that cannot afford any interruptions presented many challenges. Our team was flexible in working with undefined schedules and at times worked 24-hour shifts to meet the client’s needs. As a result of our team’s enthusiastic commitment and unmatched skill level, the project was successfully finished on time, within budget, and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
University Health Systems, San Antonio
Jamail & Smith was awarded the University Hospital Radiology Services Angio Suite #3 renovation project in the University Health System. This six-month project consisted of demolition of the existing patient preparatory room and nurses’ lounge, as well as constructing the new Angio Suite #3, which included the installation of the new state-of-the-art Catheter Angiography machine.
The challenge for this project was having to work while Angio Suites #1 and #2 were in full operation adjacent to our renovation project. There were several occasions when the Angio procedures continued for 24 hours straight. During this time, the construction site needed to be sealed off and airtight. Infection control included twice-a-day inspections of the entire area for compliance.
As a result of our commitment to quality and our unmatched skills level, Angio Suite #3 was completed on time and to the owner’s satisfaction. The transition to the renovated spaces was smooth and the facility was operational immediately.
Silver Spring at Forney Senior Living
Jamail & Smith was the general contractor for the development of the 6.7-acre Silver Spring at Forney Senior Living facility. This community includes one amenity center and 12 single-story, apartment-style senior residential buildings. Our team was enthusiastically committed to delivering quality construction results to each unit, knowing they would house the community’s elders and beloved family members. We also paved concrete streets and sidewalks surrounding the development and provided complete landscaping and sprinkler installation throughout the property.
Differences in specifications between the water district and the city resulted in large scale site plan design changes. The Jamail & Smith project team collaborated with all parties to provide value engineering options to aid in controlling the cost of these changes. Additionally, the use of improved project management software helped to facilitate and track communication among the owner, architect, civil engineer and construction team throughout the preconstruction process.
