Known for its eclectic art and vibrant music scene, the city of Austin also boasts beautiful views, diverse outdoor activities, and rich culinary options. In the center of this unique city resides the Austin Independent School District (AISD) Central office, where the administrators of the district work to provide education for the children of Austin, Texas. The Jamail and Smith team was tasked with converting a break room on the ninth floor into a high-level executive office suite for the superintendent and staff of AISD. The scope of the project included acquisition of the necessary permits from the city, demolition of the old break room, salvage of materials to reuse, and the creation of a beautiful office space with a stunning view of the city of Austin.
Jamail and Smith provided quality construction results by renovating every detail, from flooring and plumbing to ceiling tile and lighting fixtures and everything in between. A current challenge in the construction industry is materials on back order causing longer lead times. The 9-foot doors with security hardware were delayed, which threatened to extend the project end date. However, Jamail and Smith worked as a reliable teammate to AISD by clearly communicating the challenge and how they would adapt to provide quality construction results despite the delay. The Jamail and Smith team formulated a plan to complete the various phases of the project in an unconventional sequence, thus succeeding in meeting the highest standard within the project deadline.
The result is a beautiful space comprising three offices and a spacious reception area. When faced with challenges, our team has the grit to do whatever it takes to get the job done well. Jamail and Smith has been making Austin ISD look great since 2006, and we are proud to have completed the latest of our many projects with them.
